Do Good Dating | Co-founding a community initiative
Tinder had just launched. My friends and I wanted a kinder way to date.
Do Good Dating grew out of my time at Gather & Hunt, where I used to matchmake readers on blind dates and saw how much appetite there was for something more curated than an app. In December 2013, I co-founded the Do Good Dating website with Fiona Kerr and Dan Drupsteen – pairing speed dating with community volunteering, so a good match meant doing something kind together, not just swiping right. We launched with no plan to profit, made inclusion of Auckland's LGBT community a priority, and had over 600 sign-ups in the first three days.

Fiona and I sat down with Remix to talk happiness, relationships and why we built Do Good Dating as "a bit of a character filter" – proof, three years on and 3,000 members deep, that people still wanted an antidote to swiping.

“It’s the anti-Tinder”
Do Good Dating made page 3 of the Herald within days of launching – with over 100 applications before we'd even properly announced it.
